Hello, We are a group of Associations and Fellowships that have a unique relationship with the Southern Baptists of Texas State Convention. You can see what we believe from the very first page of our website, however you may be curious why we felt that a new association or fellowship was necessary. There are existing traditional associations in place so why a new one? Here are a few reasons: 1. We want to support an organization that supports our state convention (SBTC) without compromise. Most traditional associations today are removing any reference to the Southern Baptist Convention and affiliation with a state convention from their constitution and by-laws. We make NO Apology for being supportive of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptists of Texas state convention. Why would we continue to support organizations that are hostile to the SBC and the SBTC? Our church voted to support and align with the Southern Baptist of Texas shouldn't we support organizations that are behind our state convention? 2. We want to support an organization with whom we hold a common theology. We believe the Bible to be the infallible, inerrant, immutable Word of God, and understand it is our authority in church polity, personal decision making, and a blueprint for our daily living. Most traditional associations will not go on record making this statement, because they have churches, pastors, and people that do not hold to this view. How can we continue to do ministry with those that we do not adhere to the very foundation of our theology? While they agree the Bible is inspirational, it holds no authority. 3. We support the Baptist Faith and Message as revised in 2000. There is only ONE Baptist Faith and Message. All rights are copyrighted and reserved by the Southern Baptist Convention. It was revised in 2000 to be more biblical in content. Nothing was placed in the revision that did not flow directly from God's Word. While it is not a creed, it represents statements from the Bible to which we adhere and practice. The traditional association is removing any reference to the Baptist Faith and Message or specifying that they agree with the one that was copyrighted in 1963. The problem with that is there is only one Baptist Faith and Message, as revised. What if someone from your church tried to say that they did not like the church constitution as it stands today, so their group is only going to adhere to the Constitution and bylaws that they designed in 1955? 4. We don't need a new Denomination, because our denomination is the Southern Baptist Convention. Leaders in our sister state convention in Texas continue to go on record as stating they are distancing themselves from the SBC and are in the process of creating a new denomination. As recently as Nov. 2004 the new president of our sister state convention was quoted by the Houston Chronicle as saying that he really never considered himself as a Southern Baptist. There continues to be a distancing from the Southern Baptist Convention and its entities. At their state meeting Lifeway Publishers were uninvited to have a booth, all Southern Baptist Seminaries including Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth were told they could not have a booth to communicate about their institutions, and the list goes on. We go on record as supporting the leadership and the Southern Baptist Convention, it's 6 Southern Baptist Seminaries, Lifeway Publishing, North American Mission Board, International Mission Board, and the other agencies of the Southern Baptist Convention.
